My name is Sofie Bird. I'm studying a Masters in Technology at RMIT; I also tutor subjects (see 'Courses'), and I'm one of the Duty Programmers to be found at 10.10.13.
If you feel the need to contact me, my email is sofie.bird(at)rmit.edu.au
My program is specialising in programming for the web with the following subjects:
My undergraduate degree was Creative Arts (Honours) from Melbourne University. There, I specialised in a double major of Creative Writing and Theatre Studies, focussing on all aspects of the crafts including poetry, short fiction, novellas, scripts for screen and for theatre, publishing and editing, non-fiction writing, Stanislavskian acting, Brechtian, Ancient Greek and Avant-Garde theatre, as well as minoring in New Media studies, including film studies and two-dimensional visual arts.
My main focus is the field of creative writing; I'm currently working on a novel based on political science-fiction. I entered the IT field in order to broaden my employment opportunities towards technical documentation. To that end, I am currently employed by Elwood Hill Pty Ltd as their Technical Communications Officer, constructing technical documents to support their Retail Solutions developments. I also work for RMIT as a tutor and lab assistant, in addition to my role as a Duty Programmer.
I have a great love of arts and artistic endeavours; since 1995 I have been creating jewellery in various forms, typically beadwoven pieces and sculptures. In the past few years, I have extended into lampworking glass feature beads, and silverworking with PMC and basic soldering.
I have several personal projects inspired by my foray into IT. All three are designed chiefly to assist my needs in either writing or jewellery-making, and are being extended or modified for a broader appeal. Further details on these projects can be found under the subpages on the left.
